#Life at Acacia: Take me out to the ballgame

One of the things I love about Acacia is our collaborative and fun culture. The company offers a lot of activities to help employees balance work and play. Whether that be taking a break for ping pong, getting a mid-day chair massage, or playing soccer after work, we’re encouraged to participate and get to know our colleagues.

One of the activities employees can participate in is our summer softball competition against our neighbor Stratus Technologies.  This is the third year that we’ve played two games at Crowe Park in Maynard.

We had a big turnout for our first game and everyone was pumped to participate.

The Acacia team started off strong with a few great hits and a few runs!

Here are some photos of the team in action.

Unfortunately, we lost 9-3 but were still feeling confident about our next game. As Jackie Robinson said, “Baseball is like a poker game. Nobody wants to quit when he’s losing; nobody wants you to quit when you’re ahead.”
Although we had a smaller team the next time around, we came back ready to compete.

Stratus has a really strong team.  We were hard pressed to score.  We played hard, but unfortunately couldn’t catch up to Stratus who dominated the game.

Despite the loss, everyone maintained their positive attitude. Jeremy reminded the team,” Great games guys!  Like someone said, though we only got 2nd place, we almost won…”

Thankfully we’re much better at developing optical interconnect technology than we are at playing softball. Better luck next year!
