Next Stop for Acacia: OptiNet China Conference in Beijing

By Lisa Crewe | Posted on June 6, 2019

It’s been a busy few months for Acacia Communications, starting with our participation at OFC in March, SubOptic in April, NGON & DCI World in May and now OptiNet China coming up in Beijing, China on June 12-13th. We are excited about this next show as it provides us with yet another opportunity to meet with our customers and talk about how we can help them solve some of their greatest optical networking problems. It’s also another opportunity to celebrate Acacia’s Anniversary with the very customers that made us successful. As many of you now know, it’s our 10th year Anniversary in 2019 and we have been enjoying recapping the many successes we have shared with our customers over the last decade.

Optinet China

The focus of this year’s OptiNet Conference is on data center interconnects, next-generation optical transport networks, FTTH and 5G promises. According to the show organizers, the program has been designed to address the most significant innovations and issues facing optical network operators and the industry during this transformative phase. Check out the complete agenda at this link.

Acacia is proud to be part of this year’s program and we look forward to presenting with other industry thought leaders at the show. Fenghai Liu, Acacia’s Vice President of Product Line Management, will be giving a talk titled “Coherent Optical Solutions for Data Center Interconnections.” In this presentation, he will discuss current coherent applications (submarine, etc.) and highlight the increasing demand for DCI capacity driving coherent towards shorter distance applications. Don’t miss Fenghai’s informative presentation which is scheduled for the second day of the show, June 13th at 10 am.

Pluggables and Other Hot Topics

While at OptiNet, we expect a lot of great discussions around the evolution of coherent pluggable modules, starting with Acacia’s 100G/200G CFP2-DCO module, incorporating our Meru DSP, which offers simple integration and a pay as you grow commercial model. Tencent recently completed a 200G IP over DWDM Demonstration using Acacia’s CFP2-DCO. You can read the details here.

We are also hearing a lot of interest around the 400G pluggable modules currently under development in QSFP-DD and OSFP, as well as CFP2 form factors. These modules will leverage the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) specification for 400ZR, as well as standards from CableLabs and the Open ROADM MSA, to address key applications such as point-to-point data center interconnect (DCI) and IP over DWDM. Coherent pluggable modules are rapidly evolving to the edge to solve capacity issues in network access and edge applications, enabling carriers to reduce CapEx/OpEx and increase reach.

Another key trend we are seeing at the recent tradeshows, and expect to also see during OptiNet, is interest in multi-haul coherent solutions. These flexible products allow customers to use coherent transmission with varying baud rates and modulation modes applicable to multiple types of applications. We recently released a video describing this trend and highlighting how our AC1200 module, powered by Acacia’s Pico DSP, delivers the flexibility and industry leading performance customers need for these multi-haul solutions. Our AC1200 delivers 1.2Tbps in a footprint 40% smaller than 5×7 modules supporting 400Gbps today. Over the last year, the AC1200 has achieved significant industry momentum with field trials and industry recognition.

If you are attending OptiNet, we’d love to see you. Contact us at this link and we’ll get back in touch to schedule a meeting. And if you are not attending OptiNet, follow us on twitter or LinkedIn as we’ll be sure to give live updates as the show goes on.

See you in Beijing!
